I was invited by the very cool people (they play with toys for a living-true indicator of coolness) to join them for a live demo of My Girl Gourmet. It was a awesome weathered day and ventured to NYC on my own pocketbook to experience Mr. Duff Goldman-Ace of Cakes-Food Network star in real life. Seriously, can anyone be that “sweet” in real life? I will answer that later.
2 shipments of over 50 kiddos got brought in by parents wishing they could be in the kid’s decorating class too. But the parents sat in the background as I did. We all watched Duff teach the kids how to decorate cakes. It was a true food network event. Jakks Pacific was there, the makers of My Girl Gourmet.
After the class I got to speak to Duff awhile as we got ready to film the My Girl Gourmet b-roll and tape a instructional segment for the press release. (you can watch it below). So his down to earth rating is totally off the charts in my book and his coolness factor is pretty high too.
. If one person is sweet, it is Duff. I didn’t interview him. I asked him (in true Party Planning Professor fashion) if he eats cakes that he makes and he said “of course!”.
I know he agrees that any reason is a good reason for cake-just like me. We talked about mommy blogging and how I love it. We even talked about my eyebrow ring and his wisk tattoo. He called me a cool mom which is awesome…..I just hope my kids agree with him that’s what would be really sweet. We talked about him being in Atlantic City and we talked about his book. We even talked about his band. It wasn’t formal. I don’t really “roll” that anyway. I got an impression that he likes it that way too. It’s a good thing that I am madly in love with my man otherwise Duff might have had a problem with a slightly crazy me. (just kidding). Well kinda, my husband says thanks to Duff I am now his problem (He is just kidding too)

I had a fun time and got to talk to the brains behind the toy. (He is pretty fun too-I told you-cool toy making job=cool people). He talked about the time it took to perfect the Girl Gourmet. He talked about how they went through the process of making it safe. After talking with the creator of the toy, know the process that needs to be done to make the toy and produce it, and love that went into the creation of My Girl Gourmet I feel so safe letting this be part of our toy room. I love how my girl gourmet can inspire creativity.
I am thankful for the kids that can play with a toy I can trust and relax with while enjoying my kiddos. I am thankful that I was invited to this private event. I am one lucky party professor…..and it is just “sweet!”

I am Elizabeth, and this here is my party planning frontier. I am not from the west but wish I was so I sometimes talk with a southern-drawl. (We can all dream right?) I am actually from Cape May, NJ and love to party. You can lean more about me

I heart Duff too! and got to sneak a peek at the Girl Gourmet set at a toy show
I feel in LOVE. I dont know what it is about Fondant that gets me giddy to bake- but I love it.
I follow you on Twitter – obv.
My 8-yr-old loves to bake, especially to make up her own recipes! Sometimes they don’t turn out so well (transialation: yuck!) but she has so much fun inventing and baking!
BTW we are big Ace of Cakers here, esp. as I am from B-more. (I emailed back and forth with Mary Alice about her wearing an Obama t-shirtduring the campaign last fall…she was incredibly cool, as well, and we had a nice chat!) Last year on this day we were in Baltimore to see the Rockettes and we rode around the Ace of Cakes neighborhood trying to find Charm City Cakes, never did, even though were were within blocks of it! It’s in an obscure funky area I had never been to, one day we’ll find it!
making cakes is so much fun because you get to use your creativity and then you get to eat it! what could be better??
If I met Duff and the crew from Ace of Cakes I would probably faint like a little girl at her first concert! Then when I woke up, I’d probably squeal with glee and faint again! That is so cool that you got to hang out and chat cake with Duff!
My daughter is very jealous that you got to meet Duff! She loves Ace of Cakes! I am afraid what would happen to my weight loss if she started baking ;P
Cooking with my children is my favorite thing to do and it is their favorite. We have spent so many rainy days in the kitchen cooking. When it is cold, wet or even a beautiful day outside it is a great way to have fun with your children. My oldest daughter who by the way loves Duff wants to be a cook well until she is 35 than she wants to be president. But her dream is too start a cooking show for kids…and by the way she wants to do that now. She wants to be a child chef and wants to show kids how to have fun in the kitchen. Our favorite thing to do is to dye the icing with different colors and make fun things. For halloween last year we used red velvet cake mix and dyed the icing orange and we got gummy fingers, eyes and ears stuff like that and made this great cake….Even a messy cake is good…I let my kids get as messy as they want and wait I even let them lick the spoons and bowls and yes I know there are uncooked eggs in the mix, but as a kid I licked tons of spoons and bowls and I am just fine….My favorite memory will always be me and my girls in our matching aprons cooking in our kitchen…but after writing this story I realized that I do not have any pics of this so I will have to take a pic of me and my girls this week, because we are going to make those snowmen you have on your site for Girl Scouts…
My daughter and I both love to bake cakes actually anything. Making cakes is a great thing to do with young kids, it is a math lesson and they don’t even know it. I love to bake it is a great stress reliever and you can be very creative.
When I make a cake, I always look forward to eating it! My dad was a baker so there was a lot of “cake talk” around my house when I was growing up. Don’t skimp on the best ingredients. Decorating the cake is an art…and Ace of Cakes has some fantastic artists. Duff and his staff seem to have a lot of fun at their job. Makes me want to be a cake artist.
What a fun time! Making cakes is always fun here. 2 of my kids always want to help (even my 13 yr. old son). It’s a fun process for us and even better is the decorating later. Of course the actual eating is my favorite part
Making cakes is so much fun because I get to make them with my daughter, normally she bakes them so much better than me but we have a blast mother/daughter time!!
Baking cakes is fun because eating the evidence of said baking session is a blast!
I’ve never met a cake I didn’t like:)
I love being creative. I was literally just drawing out what I was going to make for my daughter’s first birthday on the 17th. Making cakes and (hopefully) seeing them turn into something cool is so fun!
I follow you as @ToBeThode
baking cakes always brings out your imagination
Just seeing that I can make a cake and have it turn out well without me decorating it is a great thing. I would love to try decorating because my mom decorated cakes, which was just a natural for her, but I never had the tubes or the paper or the time to give it a try. I too would encourage parents to let their little ones try it out. Don’t forget to use your camera for them to remember in the coming years. They will absolutely get a kick out of it.
Seriously no matter how it looks it always tastes good!
As a father to an 8 yr old daughter & 3 yr old son, I can tell you how much cooking/baking as a family enriches the lives of everyone in the house. No more children in a television or video game trance while I prepare dinner & dessert! They are with me every step of the way…planning, shopping & preparing. Now, with the unveiling of the marvelous ‘My Girl Gourmet’ products, my daughter can produce a creation for the family that fills her with so much pride it would bring the toughest man to tears. She has whipped up some unbelievable cupcakes, she has yet to try her skills on a cake! My little guy has already gotten into the act and loves letting his wild imagination flow onto his creations. The products not only allow us to enjoy some invaluable together-time, they teach wonderful life skills and bring mass amounts of happiness to myself, my children and our bellies.
Making cakes is so much fun because you get to be creative and make people happy!

My 8 yr old daughter loves and I mean loves to bake. We watch Ace of Cakes and Cake Boss all the time. She wants to be a Chef on TV so bad. She actually wants to have a kid cooking show where she her guest stars would be kids who loves to cook. This would mean the world too her. I wanted to take her to Baltimore to met Duff, but they don’t allow tours which I understand, but Duff is like a Rock Star to her and she would love to have this gift….
