Before I started out on my cabbage patch party adventure I was unsure how I was going to be able to go about creating a party scene. After all Babyland General Hospital, the awesome home of THE Cabbage Patch, would be the ultimate place to have a party. It is awesome however…… hospitals generally aren’t the route I would choose for a party ambiance. So, we had our work cut out for us.
After, dreaming, sceaming, dreaming some more and then finally consulting with birthday party entertainment company Fairytale Entertainment we agreed that a garden feeling would be very fitting.
Although the Luigi’s Pasta & Vino in Avalon, Nj is beach side beautiful but….. it is barely a garden so we had to think out of the box. I am sure that the real cabbage patch wasn’t grown in a day but we had 8 hours to grow one and make it look like one had been grown there for years. We had a task set before us.
Each and every party space makes it’s own personality and after planning hundreds of children birthday party’s I know that when it comes to decorating you have to embrace the whole room and not try to hide the parts that do not fit in with your theme. Specifically the brown posts with beautiful sculpted detail isn’t your normal occurrence in a garden. I had imagined having a green carpet threading around the posts to the door as a pathway entrance. However when I said “around” <a href=”http://www.PartyPlanningProfessor.com”>Fairytale entertainment</a> that I had the vision of AROUND the posts she heard it differently. Before you knew it, jen had recreated the beams into trees. It was deffinately a focal point of color in the room. I loved that! You can see a tree behind us in this picture.
A 10 foot carpet was created as an entrance, after all these are super star mommies that were going to be at this party. Cabbage Patch babies were going to need to go home in style down the green carpet right? A green plastic tablecloth was secured with heavy duty double sided tape. I am sure that something more suitable and heavy duty could be used. We did have some issues with the tablecloth adhering to the newly cleaned carpet at the restaraunt. Whatever you choose make sure it is secured down safely. The girls had a lot of fun strutting their stuff for the camera. This was a great addition to the party and was lined with 2 ft high balloons.
Each child recieved a doll from Jakks Pacific. It was more then just fun, the girls loved it. We hid the dolls behind this curtain
that we called the nursery. The Golden Inn was great for allowing us to use the room this way. It worked out well. Each child got to pick out their own baby with their mom right there. Even though a party was going on in that room I wanted nothing more then for the mom and child to pick out the baby just by themselves. I truly believe that memories keep us warm during cold times and I hope that day some memories were not only created with their cabbage patch but with their mom as well.
We also had a carpet that was lined with green streamers for a splash of color and a balloon back drop. Every party needs a twinkling arch especially when it comes to a garden party. I even made two artificial fairytale trees. Here is my how to story here!
There are some things I would suggest differently. Making colorful tissuepaper flowers was on my to-do list and taking individual pictures with mom/baby/and daughter. We ended up being shorthanded during the party so those things didn’t get accomplished but I deffinately suggest them for a bigger WOW factor.
